Joe Schwartz

I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, and lived there until my high school graduation. I attended Capital University in Bexley, OH, on academic and track scholarships. I met my wife-to-be there and we taught together for 4 years in Ohio. In 1967, we relocated to her hometown of Ann Arbor, MI, and I embarked on a 29 year career in Saline, MI, as a teacher, coach and principal. During my 24 years as principal, I served 8 years on the board of the Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals and was President of that organization in 1988 and 1989. In 1986, I had the opportunity to serve as a member of a People to People tour group visiting schools in Russia and China.

Since retiring here to Shanty Creek, Betty and I have had the opportunity to enjoy a wide variety of amenities offered in this area, and also the friendship of many other resort and community residents. In addition to visiting our 3 children and their spouses and grandchildren (Saline, North Carolina and Hawaii ), Betty and I have had the chance to visit 22 other countries. Regardless of who we see or where we go, we always look forward to being back home at Shanty Creek, and Bellaire!

I have been a year-round resident of Summit Village since my wife and I retired here in September, 1996. We chose Shanty Creek/Bellaire because it offered the four-season activities, beauty, setting and seclusion we wanted for retirement. The friendly neighbors, resort staff and Bellaire residents we have encountered are another big reason we enjoyed our decision to locate here. Working in real estate sales these last eight years has given me an even greater appreciation for, and knowledge of the quality and variety of amenities and activities available to resort and area residents. That appreciation and knowledge produce the genuine enthusiasm I have for helping others get “connected” here.
